GOOD GENETICS SITES
Equine Color Genetics: Guest Article by Alien Horse
The information is solid, the presentation droll, and the overall effect is enjoyable.
Horse Genetics, a web page maintained by the University of California's School of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Genetics Lab.
As one might well expect, the going on this site is a bit tougher, but worth the wade. The topics include gene mapping, coat color, cytogenetics, genetic disorders and diagnostic tests (with a good selection of articles on current facts about hyperkalemic periodic paralysis (HYPP), and horse parentage testing, covering both DNA testing and blood typing.
The links to other references are also well done.
A lot more specific in scope is the Palomino, Buckskin, Cream information by J. Sharon Batteate, complete with multitudinous photos. If you ever wondered about the paler shades, this is your site. Although purebred Arabians do not CARRY THE GENES described here, some claim that their stock is one of these colors...
And, of course, partbreds can and do come in these shades, complete with the expected genes.
Rachael Campbell writes,

ON HAULING
Frequently, I get asked about how to haul horses safely across the country. Who do you recommend? How do you know what kind of care they are giving, what shape their equipment is in NOW? This column is an attempt to answer those concerns.
The best rig to hit here recently came to pick up Pandemoniums Revival for the Brewers in MT.
I recently emailed Nick'e, "Who did you haul with?
"I can't believe the number of times I have asked you that question! I
need to get it up on my A/PMN web page so I can quit pestering you and FIND it again!", so I am finally getting around to actually DOING it. (Aren't snow days WONDERFUL?)
"It's Horse Haven. You can find them in the Arabian magazines or on
line. They are out of Idaho.
NO PROBLEM."
Nick'e
Another good tip came from an Arabian chat. Susie Mc wrote,
"Re: shipping question
"I think the mileage charge differs with each company. I use Susan Rodgers at Rodger Transport. They have done me the best job at the lowest prices of any I have talked to."
When I contacted them for some potential customers of mine, she was very prompt and gave a good quote, which may encourage the people to buy, as the shipping was what seemed to be holding up the deal. Rodgers Horse Transport (706) 743-5641.
"I recommend you contact Horse Heaven for a quote on hauling."
I don't know who recommended it. Angela Shaffer had posted two of her horses on an auction, and one of the other people, in a blind post, had listed this hauling link.
