Fire Spit Takes First and Second in
Fire Building This Year at Klondike

John had prepared since last year to beat his first place time of 6 min to build a fire and boil water. When his time came John was up for the challenge. The match went in and to my disbelieve 3 min 27 sec. It was a new troop record and a First place time. But wait a minute, Troop 222 which tried to build a fire in a different barrel early in the day was given a 2nd chance since they didn't get the water to boil in 30 min time limit. Here comes Troop 222 for a second try. I guess I have to add this was mostly Troops 222 Webelos Patrol. John seeing the younger Webelos took in on himself to help teach them a few secrets. Here build a nice base outside the barrel like this before time starts. Here use this dry wood I brought from home. Here use this drier lent. One of the Webelos struck the match and puff up went the fire. 2 min 57 sec later the water was starting to boil. Yes Klondike 2009 fire building contest was won by Troop 222 Webelos Patrol. All of us leaders from Troop 168 have never been prouder of John. Seeing the look on the Webelos faces made the Klondike the best one I've ever attended.

Troop Meetings Start Back up on July 31.


The Pow Wow will be held Friday, July 25th, Saturday July 26 and Sunday July 27th with registration beginning at 3:00 PM on Friday and costume competition Friday evening. SPECIAL NOTE TO PARENTS AND LEADERS: POW WOW WILL END APPROXIMATELY NOON ON SUNDAY 7/27/08 (THAT IS A ROUGH ESTIMATE!)

Klondike Results!

Klondike was great even though it was below zero. Troop 168 ROCKED! We won 7 first place trophies this year. We took first place in the following; Overall, Blackpowder, the Sled Race (the new sled was awesome), Fire Building (we won with 6 minutes and the second place was 20 minutes!!!), Search and Rescue, Blind Dining, and the Tomahawk Throw.

Scout Sunday & Lock-In

Scout Sunday is on Febuary 3rd at 10:30 am at the Christan Church. The lock-in is on Febuary 8th at 6:00 pm at the Baptist Chruch. The cost of the lock-in is $15. And don’t forget you can't go to the lock-in if you don't go to Scout Sunday so don't even try. No excuse is good eneough and if you still show up without going to Scout Sunday then you will be sent home, no ifs ands or buts about it!

Attention All Boys Scouts & Tribesmen!

Klondike is coming up this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (18th, 19th, and 20th) and is at Winston, MO. You can bring your camping gear to the scout meeting at the scout hut this Thursday or bring it with you on Friday, it's your choice. The fee is $6.00+ the price of food (I'd bring $20.00 or so for it all). You have to be at the scout hut at 4:30 p.m. on Friday so you can register at 5:00 p.m. There will lots of activities on Saturday including the sled race at 5:00 p.m. and there will be a cracker barrel after the camp fire at 7:30 p.m.

Conclave 2008

For all the tribesmen out there, Conclave was on January 5th, and was a lot of fun. The braves all got lots of cool free stuff for their costumes, and I really don't know what the other ranks did because I was at the braves block the whole time. At 1:00 p.m. the conclave games started and at the end there was some really cool "jousting." I got some videos and pictures of the jousting I can't put up now but I will later. The pow wow was like it normally is and I got some pictures and videos of that too.
