Stanley's Grand River, Iowa
Welcome friends, relatives and fellow World Wide Web surfers. Welcome to our Iowa home. We are located out in the country, about 3 miles SouthWest of the city of Grand River (population about 230) in south central Iowa. About a 20 minute drive to the west of our home is the town of Leon, Decatur County seat. You will find multiple grains grown in this area including soybeans, corn, sorghum and even some wheat. Try some sweet Iowa corn picked right off the stalk and fresh strawberries grown in your own garden. You definitely won't go hungry.

Neil pursues his favorite sport of hunting and the meat is always delicious. He is a lifemember of the National Rifle Association of America, Safari Club International and the North American Hunting Club. Neil had a great time on his Alaskan Dall Sheep Hunt August of 97. Three years later he took a beautiful Alaskan caribou in the same area. In 2001 he flew in again to the high mountains of Alaska for another Dall Sheep Hunt. See his 2001 Alaskan Dall Sheep Photos. View photo taken on our driveway of a turkey taken in 2002 by a larger turkey (Neil Stanley). See photos of his Fall 2003 deer taken in our own Grand River, Iowa "backyard". Click on the link to see photos taken on his October 2008 hunting trip to South Africa! He returned to South Africa in May of 2012 for a great hunt with Quagga Safaris in the Limpopo Province . Hunting in Uganda July 2104 and again in South Africa September 2014. Check out a few of those photos. Neil also traps and does his own taxidermy work. See additional later African hunts' photos (including lion and leopard) on Neil's Facebook pages.
All the carpentry and handyman projects around our home, including building our home, are done by Neil. Neil uses some of his God given talents in maintenance and remodeling projects of our church. In fact he is also a life member of the Handyman Club of American. Seems like Neil can build or repair almost anything. In addition, Neil likes to attend many of the local auctions to find really "good" buys.
Susan's main hobby is the computer, esp. e-mail, the Internet, digital photography, creating personal and organizational web pages and other various computer projects. One of her loves is Praise and Worship and Southern Gospel music, being blessed by listening, singing and/or leading worship service. Susan has many years of operating room nurse experience as an RN, CNOR. She is a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses and now retired from Iowa Methodist Medical Center, part of UnityPoint Des Moines. She also has had a few years experience in correctional nursing, along with supervision, with the maximun security Lemon Creek Correction Center in Juneau, Alaska. Other interests include reading, walking and enjoying the animals. Foremost is my love for Christian missions.
Neil and Susan met through Alaska Men Magazine. Neil was living in Anchorage, Alaska and Susan was living in Kailua-Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii. He was looking for a Christian woman to share his life with and for over 25 years we have been loving our Lord Jesus together. Our home church is LifePoint Assembly of God, in Osceola, Iowa. You can join the worship experience live stream. "At LifePoint you'll find a warm, caring and exciting church made up of friendly, active and involved people from many backgrounds, but we're on a mission, and that mission is to bring people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ."
We both enjoy to worship and fellowship with our brothers and sisters all over the world: anywhere where Jesus is Lord and His blood, cross and resurrection is taught.
We like to give of our time and talents to those less fortunate, especially on team trips to poorer countries. To view photos and information about our medical mission trip, with Medical Ministry International CA, to Nepal March 2011 and other mission trips, see our Facebook Pages (links at bottom of this page above Grand River Temperature). To share the Peace of God is a joy. Be blessed by John 3:16. We enjoy traveling and experiencing God's beautiful creation. What a joy and blessing to get together with other Christian campers for fellowship through Campers For Christ rallies.
Fall of 2013, we completed the lecture phase of DTS (Discipleship Training School) at YWAM Arctic Mercy in Homer, Alaska. We completed the DTS outreach phase with the YWAM Hope Land Base in Uganda, East Africa, leaving home in April, returning in July 2014. It is so exciting getting to know God on a deeper level and applying that deeper relationship, with the Lord, in our lives. Feb/March 2014 we went to Panama for some short term mission volunteering with YWAM Chiriqui, then we joined Caravan Tours for their escorted tour, which includes a few daytime Panama Canal cruises, plus touring some of the rainforests & beaches. Susan completed Medical Missions School lecture phase Jan-March 2015 at YWAM Perth, Australia. Neil was a mission's volunteer at YWAM Ships Kona in the Fall of 2015, while Susan completed BCC (Bible Core Course). Susan then volunteered 9 weeks in Papua New Guinea Spring/Summer 2016 on the m/v Pacific Link through YWAM Ships Kona. We took medical/dental/optical teams out into the villages, ministering to the physical and spirtual needs of the communities.
You can enjoy one of our trips back to Hawaii at our Hawaiian vacation album. One of our dream vacations was to spend one to two weeks on Bora Bora We had that dream vacation for 5 weeks Thanksgiving/Christmas time 2011 in French Polynesia (Society, Tuamotu and Marquesas Islands). We returned to French Polynesia for our 25th wedding anniversary this March 2017. You can view a few of those photos and photos of our Costa Rican Vacation late April 2013 on our Facebook pages.
Supporting our Troops: One way we are involved with supporting our troops is by sending post cards, letters, and/or packages via contacts obtained at Any Soldier.com "Freedom isn't free! Just ask any soldier.." The soldier contact puts the letters and packages into the hands of soldiers who don't get much or any mail first. Everything is shared. What a blessing this is.
Susan's son (Neil adopted him in His heart), Staff Sgt. Russell J. Verdugo was killed in Iraq May 23, 2005. He was with the US Army's 767th Ordnance Company (EOD) based in Washington D. C.
