City services:

WATER / SEWER / TRASH

The City of Browning buys water from Sullivan County and bills users.
The billing program for water/sewer/trash is a spreadsheet written by Dr. Paul Andereck in EXCEL.
Meters are read monthly and bills are mailed to customers at the first of the month.
Bills are payable within 10 days of bill date or a 10 percent penalty is charged.
Bills may be paid by mail (PO Box 195 Browning MO 64630) or
by dropping payment in slot in the wall of the City building on Main Street.
If bill is not paid by 20th of the month service will be cut off.

An annual "primacy fee" on water is charged by state and billed in April.
The rate charged for water includes: a minimum charge for 0 to 1,000 gallons ($7.50),
5 cents per 100 gallons for the amount between 1,000 and 4,000 gallons,
4 1/2 cents per 100 gallons for the amount between 4,000 and 10,000 gallons,
and, 4 cents per 100 gallons for the amount over 10,000 gallons used.
A computer program applies these rates to the amount (gallons) used since previous month's meter reading.
Bills show previous month's and current (billed) month's readings in gallons-used.
Water is taxed. The program applies a higher rate for businesses than for residential properties (to the price of water).
The program adds the sewer fee
(which is calculated each year and based on average of six months of water-usage from October to March).
The computer generated/printed water bill is for the preceding month (ending on 22nd of month -- when meter is read).
During months when water meter lids are frozen or snow-covered estimations are used;
If estimated, future bills will adjust to actual-reading.

Trash service is provided to every water customer.
Superior bills the City on a monthly basis. The City bills the customers on their water bill.
Trash is billed at $9 per month and is part of the water/sewer/trash bill.
Trash is picked up on Tuesdays (with exceptions for holidays)
No leaves or other garden/yard cuttings will be picked up.

Water deposit is $100 and water is turned on by the Water Commissioner when deposit is paid.
The City Clerk keeps a record of deposits paid and issues refunds (deposit less owed water/sewer bill)
when a water meter is turned off at the time a user leaves the city.
