Bethany Memorial Chapel opened in 1982 under the direction of Carl W. (Bill) Slaughter II. Bill is the son of Carl W. Slaughter and Loree (Richardson), both lifetime residents of Harrison County, Missouri. Carl was a teacher in the Bethany school system then later manager of Lowery-Miller Lumber Company of Bethany, Missouri. Loree spent 46 years at the Bethany Trust Company.

Prior to opening the Bethany Chapel, Bill, as his friends call him, purchased the Stoklasa Funeral Home in Cainsville, Missouri in 1977. Also in 1982 Bill purchased the Funeral Home in Ridgeway, Missouri. Bill graduated from South Harrison High School in Bethany, attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Missouri and graduated from the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, California with a Associate of Arts Degree in Mortuary Science. Employed for ten years by the Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home in St. Joseph, Missouri before purchasing the funeral home at Cainsville, Missouri in 1977. Active in the community and over 25 years of experience in the funeral business gives Memorial Chapels a tradition of excellence and caring for families in Bethany and the surrounding area.
